Strawberry Nutella Panino

Ah just the word Nutella sends me into a craze! It might be one of my favorite things on the planet. I was introduced to this Italian creamy hazelnut goodness over twenty years ago. My Italian friends were making what looked like a chocolate sandwich one day for breakfast & I remember thinking that it was quite odd. After a little coaxing on their part I tried it & haven’t stopped eating it since.

I would bring my friends jars of peanut butter (purchased on base) & they would bring me Nom Nom Nom Nutella! I always thought I had the better end of that deal. Sadly my love affair with Nutella was almost tragically cut short when we were transferred back to the states from Italy. Nutella was nowhere to be found. This was a problem. I had to resort to drastic measures. I had my friends mail it to me (along with Baci chocolates - another of my favorites). The love affair continued albeit less frequently than I would have liked.

And then one day several years ago I can remember walking down the grocery aisle and in my peripheral vision I saw “THE JAR.” I stopped dead in my tracks and actually squealed with joy right there in the middle of aisle (yes, I’m sure half of the store thought I was insane). I bought 6 jars right then and there (don’t judge) LOL & we’ve been happy together ever since! There’s always a jar tucked away in the back of one of my cabinets. Yes, I have to hide it otherwise the kids will devour it completely. I do share, just on my terms. LOL

I could list 100 ways to eat Nutella with no problems. Perhaps that should be a post one of these days. I’ll start with one of my favorite go-to snacks or lunch items. It is a Strawberry Nutella Panino! When the Nutella is heated on the panini press/grill it becomes this slow flowing river of glorious goodness! It’s one ooey, gooey hot mess that will have you dreaming about the next time you make it! Make sure you have a load of napkins nearby you’re going to need them!

How do you like to enjoy your Nutella (other than a spoon right out of the jar *wink wink*)?

What you’ll need:
Nutella
Fresh Sliced Strawberries
Fresh Mint - Just a leaf or two
Italian Bread - I used my homemade Ciabatta bread & it was scrumptious!
unsalted butter

What to do:
Take your bread and slice it in half. If you slice it after you grill it, it will completely fall apart & you’ll need a fork to eat your sammie with. Spread a thin layer of butter on the outside of your slices. Generously spread the Nutella onto the bread slices. Layer the sliced strawberries on top. Roughly tear your mint leaf and put one on each slice. Put your slices together and put onto your panini press or grill. Cook until Nutella starts to ooze out!

Buon Appetito!

These pictures are total food porn.

I am not ashamed to admit I eat Nutella right out of the jar with a big soup spoon. And I don’t regret it. A spoonful of Nutella is the perfect stress reliever after a busy day with my two little boys.

I share your love for Nutella as well. One of my favorite ways to eat it is in a crepe. I go to this crepe shop once or twice a month after a hike and just devour the Banana & Nutella crepe. It’s been almost 7 years and that’s all that I have ever ordered there! Another great way to eat it is as a pizza. If you haven’t tried it–OMG you’re missing out! Pizza dough topped with nutella as the “sauce” then topped with more chocolate (semisweet, white, milk). MMmm. melt in your mouth goodness.

Hahaha 100 ways to eat Nutella! Please, do post about that because I need to know!!!
I eat it with a spoon, right out of the jar!
This panino looks perfect. The strawberries sort of “melt” inside and gets all syrupy, don’t they!?

This looks amazing. And I love, love, love nutella. In fact, I have 4 jars of nutella sitting about 15 feet away from me in the kitchen cupboard and I think I am going to have a couple of spoonfuls right after I finish writing this comment.

I think this going to be one of my new favorite ways to eat nutella. And I need to check out that Ciabatta bread recipe. I am definitely making this for dessert soon!

Thanks for the great recipe! Now, I’m off to have a couple spoonfuls of Nutella.LOL

Grazie Marta! I think I will get around to writing that post one of these days. Or maybe I could do a once a month recipe featuring Nutella. Mmmh The possibilities are just endless! & Yes, the strawberries melt right into the Nutella! Hence the need for lots of napkins! So yum!

Nutella goes well with so many fruits and berries and they go great in sandwiches. Heat it up as a panini and it is even better!
