Come+Together with Macy’s and WIN

October12

300x250_ct_v1

I’m all about bringing attention to those in need right now. In addition to participating in the $30 Challenge this week, I wanted to share another great campaign you can support. I know you’ve seen the commercials for this but just in case you’ve missed it - or been so dazzled by the star power in the commercial that you didn’t hear the message — here’s the lowdown.

Macy’s has launched a massive campaign called COME TOGETHER. In an effort to raise awareness, money & feed 10 million people suffering from hunger & I’m happy to help spread the word.

How are they going to do this? They’re going to do it by involving the public (that’s you & me) They will even match individual donations (until their goal of $10 mil is reached)

WOW, how cool is that? These donations will go to great cause - FEED AMERICA! I KNOW you’re wondering how you can help?

Well I’m glad you asked… COME TOGETHER invites the public to rally around the cause by hosting special dinners in their homes and asking their guests to pledge a donation to Feeding America. In return, Macy’s will match these donations dollar-for-dollar until the total goal of 10 million meals is reached.

To get involved the public may participate in three easy ways: Host, Give and Shop.

  • HOST- Friends and families across the country can host dinner parties from casual to formal, send invitations and manage party details including themes and recipes on www.macys.com/cometogether. In lieu of bringing traditional host gifts, guests are suggested to make a donation to Feeding America.
  • GIVE- Donate $1 directly at any Macy’s register, one dollar provides dinner for seven.
  • SHOP- Macy’s customers can shop for the cause and get special savings in-store on October 17, when Macy’s hosts a national Shop For A Cause day. A portion of the $5 in-store ticket sales will benefit Feeding America.

Help the cause and be entered to win

In return for spreadin the word about this fabulous cause, the great people at MACY’S have graciously donated two - $25.00 GIFT GIFTCARDS for bell’alimento to give away. Ah, well who wouldn’t want one of those (would def help out in these tough times now, wouldn’t it)? All you need to do to enter is leave a comment below letting me know of one of YOUR LOCAL food organizations that helps to feed the hungry. Yep, that’s it! Easy Peasy.

Then, two winners will be randomly chosen (probably by my cutey patutey Bruiser himself. He’s quite talented you know) on FRIDAY evening (EST - because yes that’s where I live), October 16th! The gift cards will be mailed directly to the winners.

Here’s some legal schmegal: Please NOTE that: Goods can only be mailed to US addresses & Gift Cards can ONLY be used in Macy’s US stores (sorry to all my fabulous readers outside the US, you know I still love ya! Really I do!). And to keep things fair, one comment per person please (multiple comments will disqualify you so play nice! I don’t want to have to do that but you know I will - wink wink!)

Mama’s Kitchen believes that every person is entitled to the basic necessity of life, nutritious food. As a volunteer-driven, nonprofit organization, they prepare and deliver food to men, women and children who are affected by AIDS or cancer. Critical illness does not discriminate and neither does Mama’s Kitchen.

Nourishing the heart, one meal at a time.

It’s so heartbreaking to know there are people in our own neighborhoods all over the country who go to bed hungry and worry where their next meal will come from. I’m fully aware of it and all… but it still boggles my mind how that could be when we live in a nation of excess.

I live in a large city and our local non-profit Christian Radio Station (KSBJ) is currently doing a month long promo “Fill The Pantry” and the promo is to help fill all the food pantries across the greater Houston area. Their monthly special events (concerts, etc) are accepting food items to fill the pantry. They show case different pantries. There are so many to choose from here as we have multiple assistance ministries who help do everything from feed and clothe to giving a short place to stay.

The Bozoo Christian Church does a Meals on Wheels - my family contributes to that. Luckily, in our tight knit community, we really have no homeless (though we DO have a homeless shelter, which remains pretty empty) and families tend to stick together and keep each other fed. But we are lucky…and I know that.

We have several local churches that host Angel Food Ministries. Also, our local library has a food for fines exchange next week, where each can of food you contribute will take $1 off your library fine. There are also lots of churches (including ours) which participate in Room in the Inn, which feeds, houses for a night, offers clothes and showers, for homeless men in the area.
