Lamb Chops & New Potatoes w/Rosemary & {a GIVEAWAY !}

December17

lambchop2_wm

I was recently sent a complimentary copy of The Silver Spoon for Children cookbook. This cookbook is adapted from The Silver Spoon, Italy’s best selling cookbook for over fifty years. The Silver Spoon for Children features over 40 authentic Italian favorite recipes & is broken down into “Lunches & Snacks”, “Pasta & Pizza”, “Main Courses” & “Desserts & Baking”. They’re all easy to make recipes (like 3o mins or less people) are good for you & are geared at children 8 and above. You know you want a copy, don’t you *wink wink*!

The book is honestly beautifully done. Very visually appealing! Each recipe is presented with a short introduction about the origins of the dish & has facts & info about the ingredients & the Italian culinary culture (you know how curious those bambini are, they’ll eat that up). Plus each recipe has step by step instructions & include drawings & a final photo as well (you all know how much I like my pictures LOL).  & the cover is even gaw-geous!

Well naturally having 3 bambini myself I was THRILLED about receiving this cookbook. I decided that I would let Miss Priss (who is 12, that’s her above, ain’t she purty!) choose ANY recipe in the book she wanted and make it herself from start to finish & I’d just sit back and enjoy my night off ; ) So she looked through the entire book and settled on LAMB CHOPS with NEW POTATOES & ROSEMARY *ah, proud mama moment*

Recipe from the book  The Silver Spoon for Children
What you’ll need: (makes enough for 4 people)
1 lemon
1 sprig fresh mint
2 tbsp Olive Oil
4 Lamb Chops

for the roasted new potatoes:
1 1/2 lbs New Potatoes
1 sprig fresh Rosemary
1 garlic clove
2 tbsp Olive Oil

What to do:
1. Using the bridge technique cut the lemon in half & then squeeze its juice into a bowl. Pull the mint leaves off the stalk & add to the lemon juice w/the oil, & mix everything together.

2. Put the lamb chops into the lemon juice mixture & mix to make sure that the meat is well coated in the oil.

3. Let marinate for 1 hour. This gives the chops time to absorb all those lovely oil & herb flavors - you will find that the lamb is really tender & had wonderful flavor when it is cooked.

4. Once the lamb has been marinating for 45 mins, turn on the oven to 375 degrees. Using the bridge technique, cut the potatoes in half lengthwise & put into a roasting pan with the rosemary & garlic. Drizzle over the oil and, using oven mitts, put the pan in the oven & roast for 20 mins.

5. Take the lamb out of the marinade & if you pan is big enough, add the lamb to the potatoes. If not, you will need another roasting dish for the lamb. Roast the lamb chops for 10 mins. Wearing your oven mitts, take the lamb out of the oven &, using tongs, turn the chops over.

6. Using oven mitts, put the dish back into the oven for another 10 mins. The potatoes should be golden & tender when you poke them with a skewer or table knife. The lamb will be very slightly pink in the middle, which is how it should be. Cook for a little bit longer if you prefer.

Buon Appetito!

lambchop3_wm

Doesn’t that look GOOD? Well, I’m happy to report that Miss Priss is a natural! She followed the instructions to a tee & her meal came out beautifully. The lamb was tender & delicious! And the potatoes were perfectly roasted and fork tender! Brava baby! She can’t wait to try more of the recipes from the book & I can’t wait for her to try more myself!

This is definitely a cookbook that I would recommend. The book retails for only $19.95. It’s hardcover too people! & a nice large size book. I know I’ve already said this, BUT it’s really beautifully done! I think everyone who has a child in their life should have a copy (that means you Aunts and Uncles, Babysitters. Feel free to pony up, this would be most appreciated, trust me!) So run out & pick up your copy today. You won’t be disappointed. (If you’d like to order it online, check out the link above, it’ll save you a few bucks ; )
