Panna Cotta alla Nutella {Nutella Panna Cotta}

This is one of the simplest desserts you can make. And one of the tastiest! All together it takes about 10 minutes to put together {yes there is the 2 hours in the fridge to set up but that’s not really putting together time in my book LOL}. How’s that for easy peasy ; ) I love Panna Cotta. Panna Cotta is Italian for cooked cream and that’s exactly what this is. One you have the basic recipe down the flavor possibilities are endless. Naturally my first flavor addition of choice was what else…NUTELLA! Come on, you’re not surprised by this right!

Panna Cotta is such an unassuming dessert. But oh when you bite into it, it’s so luscious and creamy on the inside. It should be slightly giggly but not so much that it seems like jello. Yes that is a technical term LOL. You might be worried about the way the gelatin looks after you’ve sprinkled the COLD water over it {yes be sure it’s COLD water} but this is exactly how it’s supposed to be. I can’t tell you how many times I have made this dessert and it comes out perfectly every single time. While I might not always like my crazy flavor combinations, tee hee the consistency is always right.

You can use custard cups, ramekins or even little brioche molds (that’s what I used here, I just love the sweet little shape, so purty!) just be sure to spray them well so your Panna Cotta pops right out! To garnish these I placed a little dollop of melted Nutella on top and then very thinly sliced strawberries followed by a few mint leaves *swoon*

Ah Nutella how I LURVE you. I’m counting the ways until, well is there really an until? I can’t imagine a time when I’m not crazy about Nutella. It hasn’t happened in over 20 years now. I think I’m actually having a Nutella effect here in my town. The past few times I’ve been to the market to get it they’ve been sold out, coincidence perhaps ; )

What you’ll need:

1 pint of heavy whipping cream
3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
.25 ounce {1 packet} knox gelatin
3 tablespoons COLD water
3 tablespoons Nutella – melted

What to do:
Into a medium size bowl add COLD water and sprinkle the gelatin package on top of water, DO NOT STIR, set aside. Place your cream and sugar into a sauce pan over medium heat. Stirring frequently with a wooden spoon until well combined, continue cooking until it nears boiling. Melt your Nutella for about 30 seconds in the microwave and then add to cream mixture. Whisk together to combine well. Remove from heat add vanilla extract. WHILE the cream is cooking prepare your custard cups (ramekins work fine as well) by spraying them with cooking spray. Then SLOWLY pour the cream mixture over the gelatin mixture and stir together until WELL combined.

Equally divide the mixture into your prepared custard cups. Place in refrigerator to set up for a MINIMUM of 2 hours OR until firm. To plate, run a blunt knife around the edges of the cups and the panna cotta should release easily. Garnish with fresh fruits or topping of choice.

    wow! you had me at Nutella :) I’ve only made panna cotta once, and was surprised at how easy it was to make. Chocolate flavored one sounds perfect!

    Great idea to use Nutella and a brioche pan! So I just tried panna cotta twice – one chai tea flavored, one vanilla – and I was sad to find that the fat seemed to rise to the top and leave a layer that was more strongly gelled at the bottom. Do you know anything about this? I can’t find any information about it, but you seem to get really good results!

    My Dad has Parkinson’s so we like to make him nice yummys that are soft and tasty plus Nutella is NOT allowed in my house for any length of time so this was a perfect receipe to try at HIS house where I could leave the jar …

    My sister and I followed the instructions exactly …. this receipe should be banned … it was so good we ate it before the Frittata …

    Hello! I just wanted to say that although this looks very delicious, it definitely should not be marked as vegetarian. Gelatin is the collagen inside of animals skin and bones. Although I suppose it could maybe work with a vegetarian-friendly substitute such as agar-agar or konjak although with either of those substitutes it wouldn’t look as pretty since neither of those are clear like gelatin is.

    I made this recipe for my boyfriend and I for dessert on Saturday, and we absolutely loved it! I made some more on Sunday for his friends while we were brewing up some beer. I was nervous because I had never used gelatin before, but it was so easy and came out perfect both times. The sliced strawberries were awesome as well!
