Gelato alla Fragola con Balsamico e Basilico {Strawberry Balsamic & Basil Gelato}

sberrygelato3_wm

Grab a spoon, you’re going to want some of this! I know at first, it might be a stretch for some, I mean putting basil and balsamic in gelato? But trust me, once you have a bite, you’ll be sold! I had been wanting to start experimenting with different flavor combinations with my gelato and was finally given that last little push after talking to bff cookielicious. You know, my fantabulous friend who does all the behind the scenes stuff here at bell’alimento & makes things sparkle and run smoothly {and make me look way better than I deserve ; )} ! She’s truly the pc princess!

Cookie and me go way back {to middle school to be exact} and what I need to share with you is that Cookie isn’t as adventurous in her food choices as I am {well that’s unless she’s with me and then using my persuasive charms I always convince her she needs to try new things, like adding a little something something to her espresso, or the finer points of driving a vespa without losing your shoes LOL that’s a whole nother story, or eating sushi for the first time or… LOL I could go on forevah because well after all I’ve been told I’m pretty persuasive ; ) } Cookie is more of a plain strawberry, or plain chocolate kinda girl. SO when she told me on the phone that she had just tasted some strawberry BASIL gelato {without me having to convince her} and LOVED it! I was pleasantly surprised! And YES I had to ask her twice what flavor she had ; ) Who knows maybe after all these years I’m starting to rub off on her ; )

I couldn’t get this flavor combination out of my head. So when Mara, a sweet foodie friend of mine, that I met on where else TWITTER ; ) asked me if I’d do a guest post for her I decided this would be perfect to share on her site! So with that idea in my head I went about my experimentation. Very mad science sounding LOL… I decided that balsamic vinegar would be the perfect compliment to the strawberries and needed to be added as well and after several concoctions came up with the perfect mix and balance of flavors! I’m happy to report that even the kids loved it! Naturally I didn’t tell them there was basil in there ; ) Speaking of, you’ll want to chop it up as finely as possible. I’m all for texture but you don’t want to get a huge chunk of it that in there, or stuck in your teeth ; ) Just sayin’…

So go ahead break out your ice cream maker and head on over to Mara’s site for the RECIPE!

    ok, I get it that I have to come to your site to read the recipes,instead of reading it on my google reader, so you can get paid for the ad views, but when you want to send me to yet another site, I have to say ‘enough’

    I like the sound of this… strawberry and balsamico is a classic combo and the basil I’m sure gives it a nice freshness. Great idea!

    Boot~C: It’s really sad that you feel the way you do. There are multiple reasons for a blogger to shorten RSS feeds. A major reason is to help prevent stolen content. But what really blows my mind is your comment about Paula sending you to yet another site. Have you never heard of the concept of a guest post? It’s a wonderful thing that bloggers do for each other. I’ve personally had guest bloggers on when I have been out of town, or when someone had something wonderful to share that I thought my readers would love. It’s a great way to promote each other’s content, and get some fun new content on our own sites. She is just letting you know that you can go read the guest post she did for another blogger. If she were to repost that same post on her own site, search engines wouldn’t look too kindly on that. They look at it as spamming. So before you go and leave nasty comments for a blogger, you should maybe know what you are talking about.
