Aragosta fra Diavolo {Lobster Fra Diavolo}

I truly adore seafood. Just the thought of a meal with seafood gives me goose bumps {in a good way obviously}. Being close to the coast we are able to enjoy a variety of seafood for the majority of the year. Lucky me I know ; )I’d be hard pressed to pick my absolute favorite BUT if you threatened to take my Nutella away and made me, I’d have to say lobster {don’t worry mussels, shrimp, crab, sea bass…I still love you!}

Lobster though is special. It’s reserved for special occasions, celebrations or to do’s {at least for me, perhaps the price tag has something to do with that ; ) } One of those occasions coming up is the Festa dei Sette Pesci {Feast of the Seven Fishes} which is celebrated on Christmas Eve. I’ll be doing a whole post about it with some tasty seafood suggestions! I know, such a tease ; )

In the meantime we can dive into this Lobster fra Diavolo recipe. It’s the perfect addition to a Feast of the Seven Fishes menu. Or any special menu for that matter ; ) Fra Diavolo means of the devil in Italian. Lobster of the Devil, wha? Sounds so much better in Italian right ; ) It’s named this way because of the spiciness of the dish. Yes all those smoking hot red pepper chili flakes are what brings the heat to the table.I only added a teaspoon here, okay so it’s only mildly fra diavolo {what can I say, I’m working on my level of spicy tolerance} but if you’re feeling bold and brazen go ahead and lop in some more!

I got a steal on my lobster tails at Sams Club {no they didn’t donate these to me, but Sams Club if you’re our there reading and would like my address just let me know ; )} Two tails go a long way because you’re going to cut the meat into medallions. Here’s a tip: use your kitchen scissors and carefully cut an incision on the inside of the lobster tail, gently remove the meat and now you’re able to cut it easily.

Chuck the tail shells into water with some veggies and aromatics and you can make your OWN lobster stock. If you’re not into that or don’t have time {I know it happen sometimes} Here’s a great trick. Plop the empty tails in with your pasta while it’s cooking. They’ll change into their red dress {turn red} and now you’re able to use them to garnish your bowl ; ) Nice eh!

The key to this dish is a nice deep sided pan! I used my 6 quart ManPans sexy sauce pan! It does the job like no ones business.

1/2 cup dry white wine
1 teaspoon red pepper chili flakes
2 lobster tails – meat removed from tail and cut into medallions
1 pound spaghetti

1. Place a large pot of generously salted water onto boil.
2. Into a large deep sided pan heat your olive oil and garlic slices over medium heat just until the garlic is aromatic {a minute or so}. Add tomatoes, crushing with your wooden spoon. Stirring as necessary.
3. When water comes to a boil, add pasta and cook until al dente. When al dente, drain, reserving some of the pasta water in case necessary.

oh my word that looks divine!
Thank you sweets!
Paula, this dish has been the centerpiece of our family Christmas Eve celebration for, literally, centuries. Since my husband is a commercial lobster fisherman, I am ‘swimming in lobster’ certain times of the year, and now make this quite a bit. Delicioso! I can’t wait to see the other ’6 fishes’ you do; we keep adding to our ’7 fishes’, and do many more than that!
So Marissa, when can I come visit ; ) xoxo
Drool. Seriously, how did you know what I wanted for Christmas?
Merry Christmas : )
Paula… We don’t have any wine… I am DYING to make this what can I use in it’s place?
